Welcome to the Winter Semester 2025/26!

Studentenwerk Leipzig welcomes all new and returning students for the winter semester 2025/26! We offer a wide range of Counselling and services to support your studies and life in Leipzig.

Mensas & Cafeterias

We run eight Mensas and seven Cafeterias at various university locations throughout Leipzig. All students can use all Mensas and Cafeterias, regardless of their university. When the lecture period begins, our Mensas and Cafeterias will reopen at the usual times.

Payment is only possible with a valid student or staff ID card or Mensa Card. Register for AutoLoad today to top up your card conveniently and easily at the till! Cash payment is not possible.

If you are a new applicant for a place in a Hall of Residence and are not yet living in the Hall of Residence, please research the information for new applicants and contact wohnen@studentenwerk-leipzig.de or +49 341 96 59 880 with any questions. Please note: Questions about individual Halls of Residence cannot be answered by the responsible administrator before you move in.

BAföG Office

BAföG? We can help you! The Studentenwerk Leipzig is also home to the Department for Grants your first point of contact for BAföG. An application is worthwhile in many cases even if you are unsure whether you are eligible. Submit it easily and conveniently digitally!

The Studentenwerk Leipzig offers students free, confidential Counselling in the areas of social, psychosocial and legal matters. There are also special Counselling services for international students.

Social Counselling

The Social Counselling service is the point of contact for students with questions about studying, financing and family. The Social Counselling service offers telephone consultations without an appointment (Tuesdays 9.00 to 11.00 a.m. on +49 1761 9659 674) and individual Counselling by prior appointment.

Psychosocial Counselling

This Counselling service is aimed at students with psychological stress or personal conflicts. The service is free of charge, confidential and is organised in cooperation with the Faculty of Medicine at Leipzig University. The Psychosocial Counselling service offers Counselling sessions and Short Consultations by prior appointment. You can also use the open Telephone Counselling. There are both online and face-to-face workshops for the new semester.

Legal Assistance

Students can seek advice on legal issues free of charge. Counselling does not require an appointment, but you will need to present your student ID. Legal Assistance is offered by Jens Müller from the law firm SAMMLER & MÜLLER. You can take advantage of the free Legal Assistance on Tuesdays from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. by telephone or in person on site. International Students

International students can find out about our various programmes on our website. Our Tutors are again offering various events in the new semester to get to know other students as well as Leipzig and the surrounding area. An information day for prospective international students will take place on 30 April 2025.

Cultural Funding

We support student culture! Cultural Funding from Studentenwerk Leipzig gives students the opportunity to realise their own creative ideas. The Funding is awarded on application. Please inform yourself first on our Cultural Funding pages.

Students can find the right job alongside their studies at our Student Job Office. The Student Job Office offers appointments to activate your profile after booking an appointment in advance. The job placement process takes place online.

Bicycle Repair Stations

There are three self-help Bycicle Repair Stations for students, which are financed by the Mobility Fund. There you can repair your bike yourself free of charge. Students can carry out minor repairs independently and spontaneously at a total of five Bycicle Repair Stations.
