Photo Exhibitions & Photo Competition

We love snapshots.

Students can exhibit their photographs at Studentenwerk Leipzig. In addition, a photo competition is organised every two years together with other Studentenwerk insitutions.

Students who would like to show their photographs in an exhibition are welcome to apply to Studentenwerk Leipzig. 24 frames sized 59.4 x 84 cm each can be shown in the exhibition spaces in the hallways of the 1st and 2nd floor at Goethestraße 6. The exhibitions are usually shown for two months.

The exhibitions are financed by Studentenwerk Leipzig’s Cultural Funding.

The student photographers must be enrolled in one of the eight Leipzig Universities/Academies, which are associated with the Studentenwerk Leipzig, for the whole course of the exhibition.

The Franco-German photo competition is a project of the Deutsches Studierendenwerk (DSW) and its French counterpart, the Centre national des œuvres universitaires et scolaires (CNOUS), in collaboration with the Franco-German Youth Office (DFJW).
Every year since 2015, students from France and Germany have been invited to submit their photographs on a specific theme.

The 10th Franco-German photo competition with the theme ‘PEACE’ is currently underway (submission deadline 12 May 2025).

A binational jury, consisting of representatives of the Cnous, the DSW, the financial support organisation DFJW and former prizewinners, artists or photographers, will select the exhibited works and the prizewinners based on the following criteria:

  • Relevance of the photographic work to the theme
  • Creative thematic treatment of the topic
  • Overcoming clichés, ingrained ways of thinking and prejudices
  • Technical quality of the photograph

The results of the jury meeting will be announced at the end of June 2025.

Further information can be found on the website of the competition.
