We are the proud winners of this year’s Award for Family Friendliness from the City of Leipzig. Our RaumTeiler housing project, which brings students and Leipzig residents together in a special way, was honoured in the Recognition Award category. It thus makes an important contribution to affordable housing and more social interaction. The award ceremony took place on Saturday, 20 September in the new town hall.
RaumTeiler offers two models: Housing providers who are looking for support in everyday life give students the opportunity to live with them at reduced rents and in return receive help with shopping, gardening or simply by spending time together. If no support is required, RaumTeiler finds suitable student flatmates in return for affordable rent. The result is much more than just a housing partnership: the project creates new forms of solidarity and often intergenerational cohabitation.

“The award is a great honour for our project and shows that we are on the right track”, says Celina Bohmann. She manages the RaumTeiler project and played a key role in developing it. “We have already successfully arranged several housing partnerships – and the feedback has been consistently positive. Students benefit from secure accommodation, while those providing accommodation benefit from company and help in everyday life.”
Our Managing Director Dr Andrea Diekhof also emphasises its importance:
“We are proud of the positive response and are delighted that our ‘RaumTeiler’ project is becoming even better known in the city’s society thanks to the City of Leipzig’s Family Friendliness Award. ‘RaumTeiler’ shows how innovative housing models not only utilise existing resources more efficiently and ease the financial burden, but also strengthen social interaction. The City of Leipzig’s Family Friendliness Award encourages us to further expand the project so that even more people have the opportunity to learn from and enrich each other.”
The prize is accompanied by prize money totalling 2,500 euros, which will go towards the further development of the project.
