Unpackaged: Less waste thanks to new offers from the Cafeterias

Some of our Cafeterias are from now on offering unpackaged bread rolls and cake. Also we are introducing more reusable bottles.

Unpackaged Snacks

We are increasingly avoiding plastic foils and are now offering bread rolls, bagels and bread as well as sweet baked goods without packaging in the Cafeteria of the Mensa am Medizincampus and in the Cafeteria of the Mensa am Elsterbecken. Since we have to comply with strict hygiene standards, avoiding plastic is only possible here because our guests can take the goods with tongs. Cafeteria im Musikviertel has been selling unpackaged bread rolls since summer 2019.

Reusable instead of disposable

Furthermore, we have been replacing disposable packaging with reusable tableware and  more environmentally friendly materials for some time now. Thus, our facilities increasingly offer smoothies, overnight oats, dessert & co. in glasses and glass bowls. We are very happy when our guests make use of the reusable offers. Unfortunately, we cannot offer everything in glass containers, since many guests want to take their food with them. Also, we do not have sufficient washing and storage capacity for additional glassware in all our Mensas and Cafeterias.

It is a fact that reusable glassware and jars prevent waste, save resources and energy: especially when glasses, bottles and dishes are used many times. For this reason we depend on the cooperation of our guests. Only when all the crockery is returned to the Mensas and Cafeterias we do not have to reorder it - which saves not only money, but above all many resources and energy.
