Since 1 January 2018, the law for maternity protection (Mutterschutzgesetz) applies for students as well.
Female students are now entitled to maternity leave for six weeks before and eight weeks after childbirth – like employed women are. Studentenwerk Leipzig’s Social Counselling looks forward to informing interested women on all important changes in maternity protection law and how they may influence their course of studies and funding through BAföG.
