BAföG entitlement extended again due to corona

Regelstudienzeitverlängerung Rückwirkend BAföG Hochschulfreiheitsgesetz

Another extension of the standard period of study: The winter semester 2021/22 will also be declared a pandemic semester.

Due to the Corona pandemic, the standard period of study will be extended again. Following a decision by the Sächsisches Staatsministerium für Wissenschaft, Kultur und Tourismus (Saxon State Ministry for Science, Culture and Tourism), the summer semester 2020, the winter semester 2020/21, the summer semester 2021 and now also the winter semester 2021/22 will be counted as "zero semesters" and deducted from the standard period of study.

Effects on BAföG entitlement

The decision has a direct impact on the duration of BAföG entitlement. Students can now receive educational support for up to a maximum of four semesters longer. The certificate of achievement with the usual performance of four subject semesters, which had to be submitted to the Office for Educational Support at the beginning of the fifth subject semester at the latest, will also be due later.

BAföG recipients do not have to become active

The extension of the standard period of study is automatically taken into account by the Amt für Ausbildungsförderung (Office for Educational Funding) when processing applications for further funding. Special proof is not required. Students who already receive BAföG do not need to submit justifications or certificates from the universities.
