10,000 Euros for a Restart in Culture – Great Response to our Call

The anniversary campaign of our cultural funding was met with great interest. We received numerous applications - and selected a total of 15 student projects for special funding.
Aktion 10.000 Euro für Kulturneustart Kulturförderung

This allows us to look optimistically to the future of student cultural life in Leipzig: The Studentenwerk leipzig has received 42 applications for the "10,000 Euros for a Restart in Culture" programme, which was much more than the initiators had expected. The programme is part of the campaigns for the 100th anniversary of the Studentenwerk and is intended to support a restart for student culture after the Corona-related constraints.

For a total of 10,000 euros in cultural funding, it was possible to submit funding applications with a particularly low threshold. It turned out that the there is great desire among students to organize cultural projects together, especially now. Funding from the programme will be awarded to 15 projects. Among them are exhibitions, book projects, performances and much more.

Most of the other applicants have the opportunity to make a new attempt via a standard application to the Cultural Committee of the Studentenwerk. The next meeting of the committee is to be held on 3 August 2021.

Submit an application for regular funding

Here is our recommendation to all to have a look or listen to some projects supportet by the cultural funding (to be continued):

  • The group exhibition Between Shelters presents the works of five artists at the Nudelfabrik in Zeitz and runs until Saturday, 24 July Here, Leipzig students can explore new art spaces; with the MDV ticket, you can get to Zeitz and walk to the Nudelfabrik.

  • In the Basement Gallery on the terrain of the Spinnerei, another funded group exhibition is running until 27 July.

  • There is new art at display at Käthe-Kollwitz-Straße 5 and a new art venue for students. "Horror Vacuii" opens with the group exhibition "Weltenende" ("End of the World") on 22 July, the second exhibition "Weltenwende" ("Turn of the World") starts on 27 August.

  • And finally, a recommendation for a podcast: "Bebop Mädchen" ("Bebop girl") also funded by the Studentenwerk. The topics covered are interesting not only for aspiring musicians.
