The Studentenwerk Leipzig turns 100
Despite Pandemic - Studentenwerk Proud to Announce 100-Year Anniversary
The Studentenwerk Leipzig is celebrating a special anniversary this year. The "Verein Wirtschaftsselbsthilfe der Leipziger Studenten e.V." was founded in 1921, and it was mainly students who formed this association. Their common goal was to support other students with at least the basic necessities in the difficult years after the First World War. Somewhat later, they started using the name Studentenwerk. This year, the Studentenwerk Leipzig also celebrates the 30th anniversary of its re-foundation.
Although this year's celebrations are severely limited by the effects of the Corona pandemic, the Studentenwerk wants to use the occasion to draw attention on its history and thank its employees, Leipzig's students and cooperation partners for their loyalty and support.
Our anniversary website provides insights into the exciting history of the Studentenwerk. Throughout the next months, various activities and events will take place, as far as possible due to the pandemic.
Our Mensas and Cafeterias are gradually opening up - under restriction
With the start of the summer semester the demand in our Mensas and Cafeterias is increasing again. As more students are in town, we are now in addition to the Mensa am Medizincampus also opening other facilities for the sale of take-away food and drinks. The Mensa Peterssteinweg and the Mensaria am Botanischen Garten already opened on 6 April. On Monday, 12 April, the Cafeteria Mensa am Park and the Cafeteria Mensa am Elsterbecken will follow. More facilities may follow on 19 April - of course under further pandemic-related restrictions, if necessary.
We also used the anniversary year to freshen up the visual appearance of the Studentenwerk Leipzig. With fresh eye-catching colours, a new font and visual language, the company's values are to be communicated even better to the outside world: The Studentenwerk Leipzig is the social partner for students in Leipzig - effective, supportive and understanding. The logo has also been slightly modified. Until December 2021, it will bear the addition "100 years".
