The price for the semester ticket will be increased by 10 euros for the winter semester 2021/22. The annual graduation of prices for the next five years was last agreed upon in the MDV semester ticket contract in 2019.
Students who are enrolling now for the winter semester 2021/22 will notice an increase in price. The MDV semester ticket will from now on cost 155 euros. The reason for this is an annual increase of the price by 10 euros. This was agreed upon in the MDV semester ticket contract between the Studentenwerk and MDV, that was settled in 2019 and concerns a five-year period. As a result, students will pay 175 euros per semester at the end of the current contract term in the summer semester of 2024.
A price increase was inevitable in the contract negotiations at the time, as Leipzig students made significantly higher use of local public transport (ÖPNV) since 2014 using their MDV semester tickets than expected and calculated by the Central German Transport Association (MDV). With the annual rise, the new price should be implemented as student friendly as possible.
By including the semester ticket committee of the Leipzig Student Union in the upcoming negotiations and regular feedback with the student representatives and university administrations of the eight Leipzig universities, it was assured that the interests of the students were represented in the contract negotiations. The semester ticket committee includes student representatives from all eight Leipzig universities in the Studentenwerk Leipzig's area of responsibility.
