Halls of Residence modernised for you: Half-time for three major construction projects

Zum Baustart der dritten Wohnheimsanierung besichtigte der sächsische Wissenschaftsminister Sebastian Gemkow das bereits fertig gestellte Wohnheim in der Arno-Nitzsche-Straße 44.

The Studentenwerk Leipzig is celebrating an important milestone in the modernisation of its Halls of Residence: with the start of construction at Philipp-Rosenthal-Straße 29–33, the third project in the federal funding programme ‘Junges Wohnen’ (Young Living) is now underway. A total of 15.6 million euros is available for the modernisation of 460 residential units in four buildings.

Two projects completed

At Arno-Nitzsche-Straße 44, 86 residential units have been comprehensively modernised and six additional units created. Around 5 million euros has been invested, a large part of which came from the funding programme. In addition to new kitchens, bathrooms and furniture, the building services, fire protection and outdoor facilities have also been renovated. A solar thermal system will support hot water production in future. Thanks to the subsidy, rents are 375 euros for an apartment and between 310 and 335 euros for a room in a shared flat (including utilities).

The Hall of Residence at Straße des 18. Oktober 23, which has 94 places, has also been completely renovated. Kitchens, bathrooms, floors, furniture, all building services and fire protection systems have been replaced at a cost of around 4.25 million euros. Rents here are 420 euros for an apartment or 345 to 360 euros for a room in a shared flat (including utilities).

Next stage starts

Starting in spring 2026, we will be modernising two buildings at Philipp-Rosenthal-Straße 29–33 with a total of 274 residential units. Among other things, we are planning new two-person shared flats with a communal kitchen, additional single apartments and barrier-free flats on the ground floor. Here, too, fire protection, electrical, sanitary and ventilation systems as well as all fittings and fixtures will be brought up to the latest standards. Completion is scheduled for the end of 2027.

With the ‘Junges Wohnen’ programme, we are securing affordable and contemporary living space for you – and creating stable, socially acceptable rents despite rising construction and operating costs.
