We love snapshots.
Students can exhibit their photographs at Studentenwerk Leipzig. In addition, a photo competition is organised every two years together with other Studentenwerk institutions.
Exhibiting photos at the Studentenwerk
Students who would like to present their photographs in an exhibition can apply to the Studentenwerk. The theme of the work is freely selectable.
Conditions
- The student photographers must be enrolled in one of the Leipzig Universities/Academies, which are associated with the Studentenwerk Leipzig during the exhibition period.
- The photographs are printed by the students themselves, glued onto backing material if necessary, and brought to the Studentenwerk.
The exhibition
- We are providing 24 black clip frames measuring 59.4 x 84 cm (DIN A1) for the exhibition, which need to be “filled” with content. Twelve frames are located on the first floor and twelve on the second floor. Each frame can be hung in portrait or landscape format.
- The exhibition areas are located in the corridors on the 1st and 2nd floors of the administration building at Goethestraße 6. The exhibitions can be visited during normal office hours.
- You decide on the size of the photo prints yourself. Either have the pictures printed in the appropriate frame size or, if you want your pictures to be smaller, you will need to stick them onto backing material (e.g., photo cardboard, size 59.4 x 84 cm). We will then insert the finished images into the 24 A1 frames and hang the exhibition.
- The theme of the exhibition can be freely chosen – two different themes can also be displayed on the two floors. Discriminatory, sexist, or violence-glorifying motifs are not permitted.
- The photo exhibitions are financed by the Studentenwerk Leipzig’s Cultural Funding, which means that we cover the costs of photo printing and cardboard up to a specified amount. Please keep all original receipts and bring them with you when you hand over your photos.
- Photos are usually handed over in person during the last week before the exhibition begins.
- The photographs are usually exhibited for two months. This gives all applicants a good chance to participate in the program.
- For your information: The two-month exhibition slots are fully booked until May 2026, with availability again from June 1, 2026.
- If you are interested, please register now by sending an email to kultur@studentenwerk-leipzig.de!
Franco-German Photo Competition on the subject of peace: German double victory
The Franco-German photo competition is a project of the Deutsches Studierendenwerk (DSW) and its French counterpart, the Centre national des œuvres universitaires et scolaires (CNOUS), in collaboration with the Franco-German Youth Office (DFJW).
Every year since 2015, students from France and Germany have been invited to submit their photographs on a specific theme.
The jury has now decided on the winning photos from a total of 180 submissions from German and French students in this year’s competition on the theme of peace. The first two places go to two German students: Celine Veith, who is studying communication design at the Schwäbisch Gmünd University of Art and Design, took first place with her photo ‘Hände, die Frieden halten / Des mains qui tiennent la paix’, which comes with prize money of 1,000 euros. Yrys Ashyrakmanova’s picture ‘Fäden des Friedens / Fils de la paix’ won second prize. She is a Master’s student specialising in special education and history at the Free University of Berlin. The Franco-German Friendship Prize goes to Guilaine Walspurger from the Institut national supérieurdu professorat et de l’éducation Colmar.
The winning photos and further information can be found on the website of the competition.
