Photo Exhibitions & Photo Competition

Students can exhibit their photographs at Studentenwerk Leipzig. In addition, a photo competition is organised every two years together with other Studentenwerk institutions.

Students who would like to show their photographs in an exhibition are welcome to apply to Studentenwerk Leipzig. 24 frames sized 59.4 x 84 cm each can be shown in the exhibition spaces in the hallways of the 1st and 2nd floor at Goethestraße 6. The exhibitions are usually shown for two months.

The exhibitions are financed by Studentenwerk Leipzig’s Cultural Funding.

The student photographers must be enrolled in one of the eight Leipzig Universities/Academies, which are associated with the Studentenwerk Leipzig, for the whole course of the exhibition.

The Franco-German photo competition is a project of the Deutsches Studierendenwerk (DSW) and its French counterpart, the Centre national des œuvres universitaires et scolaires (CNOUS), in collaboration with the Franco-German Youth Office (DFJW).
Every year since 2015, students from France and Germany have been invited to submit their photographs on a specific theme.

The jury has now decided on the winning photos from a total of 180 submissions from German and French students in this year’s competition on the theme of peace. The first two places go to two German students: Celine Veith, who is studying communication design at the Schwäbisch Gmünd University of Art and Design, took first place with her photo ‘Hände, die Frieden halten / Des mains qui tiennent la paix’, which comes with prize money of 1,000 euros. Yrys Ashyrakmanova’s picture ‘Fäden des Friedens / Fils de la paix’ won second prize. She is a Master’s student specialising in special education and history at the Free University of Berlin. The Franco-German Friendship Prize goes to Guilaine Walspurger from the Institut national supérieurdu professorat et de l’éducation Colmar.

The winning photos and further information can be found on the website of the competition.
