One exhibition—two different themes: From October through December, Luis Rauner’s new photo exhibition will be on display in the administrative building of the Leipzig Studentenwerk. In it, he presents 24 large-format photographs from two different thematic areas.
„Fremde Nähe“
Sometimes a fraction of a second is all it takes to connect with someone. These photographs were taken on the streets, in crowds, and during moments of crisis—from the aftermath of the 2024 floods in Valencia to chance encounters in Belgrade, Ghana, Ireland, and elsewhere.
These are moments when strangers and acquaintances offer a fleeting glimpse into their feelings, their lives, and their worlds. Yet behind these faces lie much longer stories. Through analog and digital black-and-white photographs, Luis Rauner captures the personalities and destinies of the present.
„Zwischenlicht“
On the road, passing through unfamiliar places, mountain peaks, coastlines, and the faces of the people who accompany you along the way. These snapshots weren’t planned; they were captured in the moment. “Zwischenlicht” brings together fleeting moments that always evoke special feelings. Through these analog and digital images, Luis Rauner explores the power of colors and light and seeks to offer a fresh perspective on the world around us.
The photographer:
Luis Rauner (born 2005) is studying political science at the University of Leipzig. He discovered photography for himself at age 17, when—on his first solo vacation—he spotted an analog camera in a store window in Venice and bought it. Since then, he has carried a camera with him in almost every situation.
In the fall of 2024, while on a cycling tour through Spain immediately following the devastating flood disaster that claimed over 200 lives, he passed through Valencia and documented the cleanup efforts of tens of thousands of volunteers.
In Ghana, he explored the fashion industry and surfer culture through his photography.
In addition to his studies, he takes photos while traveling and also at concerts, festivals, and of the musicians there—as well as everything else around him.
The exhibition runs from October through the end of December 2026 and can be visited during regular office hours (typically Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.–3 p.m.).
