“Facades of Europe” – Our New Photo Exhibition at Studentenwerk Leipzig

Thousands of kilometres by train and numerous Interrail tickets have taken Jakob Steinborn from Inverness to Rome, Paris to Tromsø, and Amsterdam to Przemyśl in eastern Poland, among many other destinations.

Jakob Steinborn, 21, has been studying at Leipzig University since last year. In his free time, he regularly travels across Europe by train especially to destinations in Eastern Europe. His camera is always with him, capturing images from a wide variety of places across the continent.

Jakob is particularly fascinated by urban spaces, landscapes, and the stories hidden behind the façades of the places and cultures he visits. The impressions gathered during his many journeys have come together in the exhibition “Facades of Europe.”

A Photographic View of Europe

“Facades of Europe” presents cultures, everyday scenes, and architectural and historical landmarks. In his exhibition, Jakob highlights both the similarities and the contrasts that shape the continent. Together, the photographs combine different perspectives to create a multifaceted portrait of Europe. At a time of growing isolation and exclusion, the exhibition invites visitors to look at Europe with open eyes.

Jakob photographs digitally using lightweight equipment, giving him the flexibility to travel easily and the freedom to capture fleeting moments and respond spontaneously to his surroundings.

Most of the photographs in the exhibition were taken spontaneously during his travels over a period of almost eight years.
