Emergency childcare for students with children

According to the latest general decree of the Free State of Saxony, students are now also included in the group of those who are entitled to send their children to the emergency day care centre.

Many students with children are currently unsure if and when they can make use of emergency childcare in daycare centres. Our Social Counselling Service has done a lot of telephone and research work on this issue and briefly explains the relevant changes in the general decree on the enforcement of the Infection Protection Act in day care centres for students, valid from 4 May 2020 up to and including 22 May 2020:

  • The examination offices are responsible for confirming the " employment " and the "absolute necessity for the business" of working students.
  • The completed form must be presented to the management of the day care centre.
  •  Day care centre have been operating again since Monday, 4 May 2020.
  •  Students are now included under point 3 in the group elegeble for emergency care "as long as they participate in authorized courses" and the "care by the other holder of custody cannot be secured".
  • The person with child custody must prove the need for emergency care to the management of the day care centre using the offical form 2.

Since the current regulations are not precisely formulated and may raise questions among students, the responsible ministry wants to define the procedure in more detail in its own FAQs. We will inform you as soon as we have further details!
