Pregnant students and parents who study have special questions and problems. The social counselling service of Studentenwerk Leipzig informs and advises students with child(ren) comprehensively. We can solve many problems in personal interviews and by arranging contacts to the authorities in charge.

For an individual consultation, a personal appointment is made in advance. The session usually lasts 50 minutes. The counselling can be held in English or German and may take place in the following ways:

After the short initial meeting, further counselling appointments can be made directly. You are welcome to bring your children to the counselling session.

We are extending our Legal Assistance offer by a telephone office hour for students with children. 

On one Thursday per month consultation via telephone will be offered from 7.30 to 9.30 p.m. after booking an appointment online in advance. One appointment lasts 30 minutes. 

We will be conducting the telephone office hour deliberately in the evening hours in order to enable the student parents to use the consultation offer while their children are sleeping.

  • Hardship funds for students
    • Students suffering from an acute or temporary financial emergency through no fault of their own have, as a rule, the opportunity to apply for financial aid once during their studies. The financial support can be applied for as a interest-free loan without guarantee or as a grant.

  • Mensa children's card and children's plate
    • Studentenwerk Leipzig support students with children by means of the Mensa children’s card. This card entitles children of students of Leipzig’s universities, starting from the 1st birthday until they reach the age of 10, to receive one free warm meal per day and per child at the student restaurants run by Studentenwerk Leipzig.

  • Participation in cultural or sporting events
    • KulturLeben Leipzig & Region has been enabling people with particularly low incomes to participate in the cultural life in Leipzig and the surrounding area free of charge. The Social Counselling Service is social partner of the project and provides support for the application

  • "Freitisch" voucher
    • Students facing a financial hardship they are not responsible for can apply for a "Freitisch" voucher at the Social Counselling service. This voucher is added to the current student card or Mensa card. With the help of the voucher meals and beverages can be purchased in the Studentenwerk's Mensas and Cafeterias.​​​​

The Student Family Center “StuFaz” is a meeting and networking place, a place to go to and a place for counselling and events for those (future) students parents of Leipzig whose child is not yet in a childcare programme. Our Social Counselling Service offers various information events, workshops and counselling for student parents whose children are not yet in childcare. Additionally, in StuFaz, student parents have a place to play, relax, meet and study. Student parents are welcome to bring their children along. However, we do not offer childcare—but all events are made for taking your children with you.

These events provide you with the most important general information on the topic of studying with children, show different solutions and answer questions from students and their partners or spouses. These events are free of charge and open to all students at Leipzig universities and their partners.
